More than 80.000 orders for tickets from 40 countries and more than 53.000 allotted tickets – that is the result of the ticket drawings at the end of the fourth ticketing phase for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011. The final ticketing phase will start on March 18, 2011, exactly 100 days before the opening game between Germany and Canada on June 26 at the Olympiastadion Berlin.

In order to give everyone a fair and equal chance for tickets, the tickets were allotted on the basis of a lottery system on Thursday, February 24, 2011. Due to the high demand for tickets, this method guaranteed equal opportunity to all. The lottery „winners“ will receive an official allocation confirmation. The tickets will not be sent out and delivered until four to six weeks prior to the start of the tournament. Those who ordered tickets and did not win will also be notified via E-Mail. The final ticketing phase starts on March 18, 2011, exactly 100 days before the opening match between Germany and Canada on June 26 at the Olympiastadion Berlin.

We are happy to see that the Women’s World Cup 2011 is so well received and interests a lot of people. More than 6.000 tickets were allotted for the final and the opening match. That shows how well the Women’s World Cup is received in Germany. We are confident to have full stadia and a unique World Cup atmosphere. During the final phase of ticketing no tickets will be available for the matches with German participation except for some tickets with line-of-sight-obstruction. All in all, more than 515.000 tickets have been sold up to now “, explains organising committee president Steffi Jones.

The opening match between Germany and Canada at the Olympiastadion Berlin on June 26, 2011 will set a new record in attendance for a women’s football match in Europe. The current record was set on April 22, 2009, when 44.825 fans came to see the women’s national team match between Germany and Brazil in Frankfurt. The opening match attendance of the first FIFA Women’s World Cup on German soil will also surpass the attendance of the last two opening matches at FIFA Women’s World Cups (28.098 in China in 2007 and 24.346 in the USA 2003). The opening match between the USA and Denmark during the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup at the Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey will not be reached, as it was set with an attendance of 78.972.
