Celebrating the first birthday of Sports Metropolis
18 days ago they were opponents on the field and competed in the city derby in front of a record crowd of more than 74.000 spectators at the Olympiastadion Berlin. Now they are celebrating the first birthday of a joint initiative together: The football clubs 1. FC Union Berlin and Hertha BSC of the Second Bundesliga are partners for www.berlin-sportmetropole.de, the joint platform of Berlin’s Elite Sports teams.
It has been exactly on year since the umbrella brand name „Berlin Sports Metropolis“ was founded – 12 months during which participating partners such as the Olympiastadion Berlin have come together for ten round table conferences and have successfully developed new ideas and projects. Ticket cooperation for Hertha BSC and the track and field meet ISTAF were agreed upon here, a collective image theme was developed for the website and the elections for the CHAMPIONS 2010 – Berlin’s sportsmen and –women of the year were supported here. The 1. FC Union football club and their stadium An der Alten Försterei are new members and partners of the Sports Metropolis since the beginning of the year 2011. Berlin’s goldsmith, the Berlin Olympic Training Centre had started their cooperation with the Sports Metropolis project in July of 2010.
Among the highlights of the ideas and promotions that were developed by the group is the Berlin Sports Metropolis prediction game that was started in September of 2010. Prizes for the best predictions total more than 10.000 Euro: Six teams, five different sports, one game! All are welcome to play and win as participation is still open. The celebrity predictions during the next week (calendar week 9) are being made by discus World Champion Robert Harting. Another successful introduction was the BERLIN SPORTS METROPOLIS SUPER TICKET. It has been available twice so far (December and January) and sold out within just a few days. With the ticket, fans can see a total of six games of Berlin’s Elite sports teams within one month and the best part about it is the unbeatable price of only 35 Euro. That is less than 6 Euro per game!
