DFB chooses Munich as Germany's potential host for EURO 2020
The German Football Association (DFB) has chosen Munich to represent Germany as a potential host for the UEFA EURO 2020. The decision was made today by the DFB board.
The decision was made after a comprehensive and detailed evaluation of both application folders. Berlin had applied for the bid to be selected as host city beside Munich. Both cities filed very good and convincing applications the board said..
DFB-president Wolfgang Niersbach explained: “This was not an easy decision for us by any means. We had two really strong applicants in Berlin and Munich. Both have proven consistently, that they are able to host such major events. We are sure that we have a good chance to receive one of the packages for the EURO 2020 with Munich as a host city.”
Joachim E. Thomas, CEO of the Olympiastadion Berlin GmbH, congratulated Munich: “We hope that our colleagues in Munich and the DFB will host attractive matches in Germany.”
