Impressive opening ceremony starts FIFA Women's World Cup
The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 has started. The opening ceremony at the Olympiastadion Berlin was held in front of a capacity crowd of 73.680 spectators. Students from Berlin’s schools represented the different nations that are participating in the tournament by wearing the respective jerseys. It was a colorful celebration in light of the World Cup opener.
In the eastern stands, the spectators could witness a fan choreography, showing a star in Germany’s colors with a number 11 in its middle, representing both the team and the year of the World Cup. A massive globe dominated the action on the pitch.
Once the globe reached the middle of the pitch it transformed into a massive ball that mirrored the spectators before it broke open and released hundreds of helium-filled footballs into the skies above. After the impressive ceremony, German president Christian Wulff officially opened the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011.
