unique and colorful New lighting
Worldwide Unique and colorful: The lighting system in the Olympiastadion Berlin puts its focus on optical variety. A special highlight is the full-color LED floodlight system which has been built into a stadium for the first time worldwide. Before on July 4th the DFL (German Football Association) during the DFB-Pokalfinale and Hertha BSC in the new season get to enjoy the new lighting options, lighting designer Mikki Kunttu will inaugurate the system with a custom-made choreography on June 25th 2020. The Finn became known through his impressive stagings of the Cirque du Soleil and the Eurovision Song Contest.
The lighting system is put together by different components: Besides the full-color LED floodlight system there is also a unique and colorful architectural lighting installed. This includes the so-called membrane lighting, which is build into the roof of the stadium, and the effect lighting “ring of fire”.
Due to this new technology the different options of colorful illumination are almost unlimited and are unique in the Stadium world. The possible lighting settings can change and emotionally effect the entire Stadium picture. For example, the Stadium can now shine in Hertha BSC blue-white, in DFB green and in every other imaginable color.
The CEO of the Olympiastadion Berlin GmbH, Timo Rohwedder, is confident in this new system: “In the future the new lighting system will give us the opportunity to set the mood for our guests according to the occasion and fill them with enthusiasm. Adding to this the organizers can use the lighting system to stage their events determinedly with colorful lighting effects – no matter if it is a mayor event or a small company event.
The Floodlight requirements set buy UEFA and DFL are not only continued to be fulfilled but even overfulfilled. Nevertheless, energy savings will still be achieved. Every year around 142 tons CO² can be saved.
