World Cup Qualifier against Sweden at the Olympiastadion
The German National Team returns to the Olympiastadion Berlin. On October 16, 2012 the DFB Team takes on Sweden in a 2014 Official World Cup Qualifying match, declared the executive commitee of the German Football Association (DFB).
The last visit to the Olympiastadion Berlin in October of 2010 resulted in a convincing win in the Qualifier to the Euro 2012 championships as Germany defeated Turkey by a score of 3:0.
On the path to the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil, Hanover, Berlin, Nuremburg, Munich and Cologne are the sites of the home games for the German team. On September 7, 2012, the German team will take on Faroe Islands in Hanover before travelling to Berlin to take on Sweden in World Cup Qualifying group C.
In 2013 the team will play Kazakhstan in their first home match on March 26 in Nuremberg. Austrian fans who wish to accompany their team to the game have a short trip on September 6, 2013, when Germany will take on Austria in Munich. The final home game on the way to the World Cup 2014 will be the match against Ireland set for October 11, 2013 in Cologne.
National team manager Oliver Bierhoff: “We’re excited that all matches have attractive venues set. The executive committee did a great job of choosing stadiums that give the fans an opportunity to show their support for the national team in a big way. Especially in important matches with strong opponents, the fan support becomes a big factor as will be the case for the matches against Argentina, Sweden, Ireland aud Austria.”
